First Year Interview with Josh Blunt

Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Joshua Blunt. I am from Wexford, although I previously lived in Australia. My home church is Wexford Bible Church, although, as I stay at the College during the term, I also go to Moria Baptist. Wherever I am, I always enjoy sports or physical activity, but I also like reading and playing the guitar.

Why did you choose to come to the College?

Since reading a biography of Jim Elliot when I was 12, I have always had a desire to serve God as a missionary. So, when I heard about the possibility of coming to the Irish Baptist College, I was very keen, as I wanted the opportunity to study God’s word in-depth, to deepen my understanding of God, and to prepare myself for future ministry.

What has been the best thing/things about it so far?

I have really enjoyed every part of the Irish Baptist College so far. However, I have really appreciated the thorough study of the Bible and learning how to better understand and apply it. Another highlight for me is the fellowship. It is so encouraging to be around so many like-minded people who also want to grow in their walk with God and serve in ministry.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt during your time so far?

One of the biggest things that I have learnt or become more convinced of is the centrality of the church. How God gives the church to encourage and disciple believers, but also so that he may be glorified through our worship and fellowship. Because I am interested in mission, being here has solidified for me how the church is vital for the spread of the gospel and the fulfilment of the Great Commission in Matthew 28.

What have you found challenging?

One of the modules I am currently studying is Biblical Greek, and personally, I am far from being a talented linguist. So, although I am very keen to learn the Biblical languages and can see the benefit of a greater understanding of the original text, this is probably one of my more challenging modules.

What can we pray for you?

I would greatly appreciate prayer for God’s continued leading and guiding as to where he wants me to serve him in the future. But also that I would continue to grow in my understanding, knowledge and love for God and his word.
